#26. Colorblind // Counting Crows (from the album This Desert Life, as featured in the film Cruel Intentions)
I am colorblind, coffee black and egg white.
Pull me out from inside.
I am ready, I am ready, I am ready, I am--
taffy stuck, tongue tied,
stutter shook, and uptight.
Pull me out from inside.
I am ready, I am ready, I am ready, I am fine.
I am covered in skin,
no one gets to come in.
Pull me out from inside.
I am folded, and unfolded, and unfolding.
I am colorblind, coffee black and egg white.
Pull me out from inside.
I am ready, I am ready, I am ready, I am fine.
I am fine.
I am fine.
I discovered this song from the film it’s featured in, which I have a strange attachment to because of my past. The scene it plays in is very emotional. I love the lyrics and the gentleness, I find it beautiful.

Traditional Art
Here they are, then. Not all of them, by any means. They’re each a little special to me, mostly because they’re all of family and friends - I’m not really sure why but I don’t often sketch objects or people I’m not linked to somehow. I do really enjoy drawing and sketching. The time it takes me to finish always varies; sometimes it’ll take me a couple of hours, sometimes a day. Sometimes I get distracted by, like, the TV, or the dog, or the Dad. Most of the time, I suddenly realise how badly my back aches so I have to take a breather.
I think it’s pretty clear I love eyes. I think they’re the best part of a person, though they can often give away the worst part. As far as doodles go, it’s always eyes. They’re actually the only feature I can draw without reference. They’re also the only feature I can draw without swearing. I don’t know if I do them any justice, though.
Can everyone just stop and appreciate how talented my best friend is?
RISE, MY YEAST MINIONS!!

This cake is my FAVOURITE.
I first made this cake after being sent back to uni with a bucket of home grown veg from my Dad.
In order to use it all in time, I found this recipe online and have since baked this cake many many times, for me, my housemates and for a society social!
The cake is light and moist (I hate that word but what else should I say? the cake is damp?!) and doesn’t taste of marrow - always a plus. This recipe is also HUGE, which is brilliant as the cakes freeze really well. I usually slice and wrap each piece in clingfilm, ready to reheat.
You can get away with halving the sugar without losing the sweetness, and the marrow quantity doesn’t have to be exact - but if you add more marrow, up the flour a little to balance it out!

Three Things I Love: In the Kitchen
1) Frylight Sunflower Oil Spray
My housemate had this spray and recommended it so I got some - it’s actually really handy! I always used to pour way too much oil into the pan and then ended up accidentally deep frying all of my food - not a good way to lose weight, believe me! However, my favourite use I’ve found for this by far is greasing cake tins. It takes 2 seconds to spray on and dust with flour, and then your cakes release perfectly (and with less calories!)
2) Slow Cookers
I’ve wanted one of these since I read this recipe for Pulled Pork on Time To Cook Online last year. I decided to treat myself after exams were over but succumbed and went shopping before the last one - rebel! I bought my slow cooker as well as two weeks worth of groceries, the journey home was the WORST THING EVER. My arms nearly fell off but then when I got home I made pulled pork and it was AMAZING. I ended up using apple juice instead of ginger beer and made the house smell lovely overnight!
Since then I’ve also used it to make Butternut Squash and Philadephia Soup using a recipe from The Branded Cookbook which I got for christmas from my cousin. In short - slow cookers are awesome.
3) Beetroot Brownies
Blog post with more photos and recipe to follow but oh man these are good brownies, and with half the calories! I think vegetable cakes are becoming a thing in our house - I make marrow cakes, beetroot brownies and banana bread, and my housemate Laura has made banana muffins and a parsnip & maple syrup cake - which is something I am going to try!
I think I might have a vegetable cake group of posts - if anyone reads my blog and has suggestions of crazy cakes then let me know?

Some days you just fancy chocolate. For me, that’s every day!
I’m trying to go on a health kick at the moment so I didn’t want to have actual chocolate, so that’s where Beetroot Brownies came into play.
I like cooking unusual things if I can, and I also happened to have raw beets in the fridge; I think I was planning on pickling them, but my Morrison’s memory is hazy. They’re in brownies now anyway!
The brownies themselves are rather fab - not too sickly, yet chocolately enough to satisfy my craving. They’re really easy to make if you have a blender and come out of the oven with a melt in the mouth middle.
